The Department Of Justice is the United States federal executive department responsible for the enforcement of the law and administration of justice, equivalent to the justice or interior ministries of other countries. This department is led the Attorney General, who is Eric Holder. The Department Of Justice was founded June 22, 1870-July 1, 1870 and is located in Washington DC in the Robert F. Kennedy Department Of Justice Building. In 2010, there were 111,993 employees and the annual budget of the department was $27.7 billion. Since the founding of the department the Attorney General position has been avalible in 1789 there has been many of outstanding people who served at this position. Some of the people who had the honor to have been named Attorney General are: Edmund Randolph, Charles Devens, Frank Murphy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Michael Mukasey who served before the current General Eric Holder. In total there has been 82 Attorney Generals. Each Department has a mission statement which says what their goal is. The Department Of Justice Mission Statement is "To enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans". This statement is highly important to the US no only because it's what they are going to do to protect us and to serve justice but because it's what people need to do themselves. The people need to help prevent crime by doing what is right instead of wrong. The Department Of Justice is very important to the US because it helps us to to enforce the law correctly instead of incorrectly. One of the things this department does is enforce and review laws.
On April 28, 2010 Eric Holder came and gave a little review of the Arizona Immagration Law. In this video he states that they were considering a court challenge of the law which means they would sue the state for the law. Like I stated the Department of Justice is very important to the US and always will be. This department will most likely in my mind will be one of the most important ones in the US because it deals with the law that the people must follow.
